My Review: Wow! Really, that’s all I can say about this audiobook. Wednesday’s Child is absolutely riveting from start to finish.
In 1983, Dr. Leigh Novak felt her life starting to splinter after her husband leaves her and her four – almost five – year-old son Jeremy in dust for a younger woman. Although little Jeremy is sure Daddy will come back soon, Leigh knows this divorce has been coming for quite awhile.
At the time, Leigh was working as an emergency room doctor and Jeremy was attending daycare. He always had an active imagination, but that creativity turned into lies. Those lies escalated when Jeremy told his teacher that his Daddy was killed in a car accident. Convinced, she let Jeremy slide by after his most recent tantrum. When Leigh found out about Jeremy’s lie, she gave the teacher the truth and the teacher returned the favor by insisting that Jeremy needed therapy.
That nudge from the teacher was enough to send Leigh over the edge. She wanted out of that town, away from the hurt of what her ex-husband had done and she needed to put down roots for her and Jeremy. Hartwood, California was the answer to her prayers.
Hartwood, a small community in Northern California would be their new home. The town’s current doctor promised her the best, and he was determined to deliver that to her. He promised excellent daycare with the best provider in town and a new life as the town’s only family doctor.
This audiobook is an awesome psychological thriller and it gave me chills more than once. As the characters begin to intertwine, the town’s dirty little secret is exposed. On the day of Leigh and Jeremy’s arrival to Hartwood, tragedy struck with the death of an innocent little boy. The boy was healthy, he hadn’t done anything wrong. He just had the chickenpox right? Those aren’t deadly…
Narrator Review: John Driver’s narration of Wednesday’s Child is spot on. He puts just the right amount of emotion and mystery into the voices of the characters. He kept things interesting and easily seamed the chapters and the entire audiobook together nicely. Bravo!
