My Review: The Surge is the second audiobook in the Storm Runners series that follow Chase Masters and his dad. Chase and his friends Nicole and Rashawn have survived the brunt of Hurricane Emily and are wading through the high winds and flooding that have followed the storm.
At the end of the previous novel, The Wind, author Roland Smith left us with a huge cliffhanger after the teens arrived back to Nicole’s family farm. Thankfully, Smith picks up right where he left off and continues the fast-paced, action packed story.
Chase, Nicole and Rashawn are almost safe in the barn with a pregnant elephant and Nicole’s grandmother. Things get interesting when Chase and Nicole venture out of the barn to find fuel for the generator. The wind is whipping, debris is flying and there’s one more big problem… Hector. The unpredictable leopard has a bad attitude and is on the loose, most likely seeking shelter from the storm. But where? He’s disappeared into the darkness of the storm.
This series continues to be a great listen and is geared towards young adults and middle schoolers. With that said, I still enjoyed the drama and the story line. I’m anxious to see what happens to the Masters and Rossi families in future audiobooks.
Have your son or daughter give these a whirl and be sure to start with audiobook number one in the series, The Wind.
Narrator Review: Ramon de Ocampo is a great narrator for this series. He narrates the teenagers with great ease and keeps the flow of the story moving along very nicely.
