My Review: If you like Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, you’ll LOVE Darynda Jones! There’s a lot of similarities in the two, but oh so different. This audiobook picks up where Darynda’s first novel First Grave on the Right left off. Even if you haven’t listened to the first, you’ll still love this one.
Jones’ novel follows the life of Charley Davidson, a grim reaper and private investigator. Charley has her hands full as usual with random dead people following her around, appearing in her apartment and even in her shower. She has her right hand girl, Cookie, along for the ride. Cookie is a single mom and Charley’s neighbor, friend and employee. She’s a pro at digging up dirt on any sort of P.I. case they’re working on and manages to get herself a little too close to Charley’s next case.
Cookies friend Mimi has turned up missing and they’re on the hunt to find her. And figure out why the heck she left. Mimi has a wonderful life with her family and anything she could ever ask for. Except for that dark, 20 year old secret that has surfaced.
Oh and of course we can’t forget about Reyes. Reyes, aka “the Big Bad”, is back and trying his best to protect Charley. In the end, Charley makes a decision that may cost her her life… and his.
I don’t want to go into too many details, I hate to ruin books for listeners and readers. But trust me, you’ll love this audiobook. Jones is a great author and has proven that in her second novel. Charley is the Stephanie Plum of the paranormal world… She’s hilarious, sassy and sexy.
When you download the audiobook from Audible, you’ll also have an exclusive interview between narrator Lorelei King and author Darynda Jones. Great stuff in there! And you’ll get a clip into the third novel due out in February 2012, Third Grave Dead Ahead.
Narrator Review: As I’ve mentioned a million times before, I love Lorelei King. Not only is she a wonderful narrator, she’s super nice. I’ve tweeted with her a few times, and she’s a sweetheart. She did a great job of voicing Reyes, I think that impressed me the most. I could feel his anger or pent up sexual tension, depending on the circumstance, when she spoke. She kept Charley’s attitude young and spunky. Great job, once again!
