Story: How could I not want to listen to this book? On Stranger Tides is the basis for the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie, written by Tim Powers and narrated by Bronson Pinchot. What more could I want?
Having previously enjoyed several of Tim Powers books in the past I was really excited about what he had to offer to the world of swashbuckling pirate literature. Powers does not disappoint. On Stranger Tides is full of intriguing, gritty characters that are brought to life by Power’s engrossing storytelling skills and Pinchot’s narration.
Tim Powers has a knack for weaving together story lines and genres into a compelling multifaceted experience. On Stranger Tides is an engrossing swashbuckling/fantasy/voodoo thrill ride. There were moments in this book were I felt like I was suddenly transported from a pirate adventure directly into the middle of an episode of Lost… and it works!
Favorite character’s name: Woefully Fat
Audio Production: Once again.. as you may know, I am a big fan of Bronson Pinchot’s narration. The way that all of the distinct accents and nuances of each individual character were handled gave the book depth and texture to all of the characters.

Overall: On Stranger Tides was a lot of fun. Those looking for a good swashbuckling adventure will certainly not be disappointed. Pinchot’s narration and the audio production bring the story to life and make this audiobook one that shouldn’t be missed.
