My Review:
This audiobook blew me away. I was totally unprepared for just how hilarious Let’s Pretend This Never Happened was. I went into this audiobook without any idea who Jenny Lawson (The Bloggess) was. Honestly the only reason I even started this book was to figure out what the heck was up with the mouse on the cover. Anyway, it didn’t take long to figure out that something was special about this book. Was it the way Jenny sings all of the chapter titles or the way that she constantly goes off script? It was probably a little bit of all of those things but I think what really hooked me was “Stanley the Magical, Talking Squirrel”. (I’m not even going to attempt to explain this… I couldn’t do it justice. If you are intrigued get the book. You will not be disappointed.)
Perhaps I enjoyed this book so much because much of what Jenny described I could actually relate to. Jenny is “real” and her family is real crazy and that is how it is supposed to be isn’t it? At least that seems to be the way it is in our family. We grew up on a farm so we have several similar stories that involve dead animals, cisterns, racoons, etc.
Jenny is just a lot of fun! Her stories are hilarious and her paranoia is contagious. Shortly after I finished listening to this audiobook my son lost his first tooth and I couldn’t stop thinking that we should probably have our water tested for Radon. Then when a few fish started showing up dead out in woods I immediately thought it must be the chupacabra.
Audio Performance: Jenny’s delivery is perfect. I can’t imagine that anyone else could have provided a more enjoyable listening experience.
Overall: Let’s Pretend This Never Happened is one of those audiobooks that will life on my ipod for a long time. I’ll visit it several times in the near future when I’m between audiobooks and need a laugh. Highly recommended.
