My Review: In Lean Mean Thirteen, Stephanie Plum is spending way too much time with or worrying about the two people at the top of her poop list, Dickie Orr and Joyce Barnhardt. Dickie and Stephanie were married for “15 minutes” before she caught him and Joyce doing the deed on her dining room table. Understandably, since then they haven’t got along too well.
Stephanie agrees to do a favor for her mentor and sometimes love interest Ranger and heads to Dickie’s law office with Lula and Connie. Lula does the filing at the bail bond’s office and Connie is the receptionist. Ranger has instructed Stephanie to plant a few bugs in Dickie’s office and she does, but then things get a little out of hand when she sees a picture of Dickie and Joyce on his desk. She gives Dickie a little something to remember her buy (think bodily injury) and the threesome leave. Thankful before things got dirty, she managed to plant the bugs for Ranger.
Finally, things get really interesting… Dickie is missing and of course, Stephanie is the prime suspect. Mostly because their divorce was very public in the ‘Burg and her hatred for him isn’t a secret. So where the heck is Dickie? There’s blood at his place… and he’s no where to be seen. Where’s the body? And better yet, who did it? And why? He was a weasel and a cheater… but who would kill him?
You’d think after all the previous novels, I’d be bored by number thirteen but I’m not! I’m so in love with Stephanie, Joe, Lula, Grandma Mazur and Ranger. They’re such amazing characters and I just can’t get enough.
Narrator Review: Lean Mean Thirteen was narrated by Lorelei King and she does an amazing job! Lorelei’s dedication to the novel and characters is unmatched by anyone I’ve listened to. She’s so great with each voice, I just love listening.
