My Review: What an amazing audiobook! Normally, the books I dive head first into are scattered with a lot of humor and this one differs in that aspect. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a little humor, but there’s not much room since it’s jammed packed with suspense. I couldn’t turn this one off and finished it in little over a day. I listened on the way to work, at work, on my lunch break, on the drive home and while at home. Every extra second I had, I was listening!
A Crack in Everything is the first audiobook in the Susan Callisto mystery series by debut author Angela Gerst. Gerst has created a phenomenal character in Susan. She’s smart, sexy and brave… three great traits in a lead character! Susan spends most of her time consulting politicians, with a little real estate business thrown into the mix. She’s contacted by business owner and potential political candidate, Charles Renfrow and is sucked into his game. Renfrow wants to make a bid for mayor and he has reasons… but can he be trusted?
All of the drama surrounding Susan brings her ex-boyfriend and cop Michael back into her life. He left her abruptly and they’ve both missed the relationship. Susan quickly lets Michael back into her life, maybe a little too easily.
This audiobook is absolutely packed with suspense and left me on the edge my seat with multiple murders, threats and attacks. Such a big plot and underlying story that is finally tied into a neat bow at the closing of the novel. Gerst does a great job of not only creating a satisfactory ending, but navigating herself towards a second novel. Needless to say, I can’t wait to see what Susan is up to next.
Narrator Review: Xe Sands did an amazing job! I may be partial since she’s our Twitter friend, but honestly she gave a great performance. I was really surprised at what a deep, but smooth voice she gave to Michael. She never wavered in the various voices in the book, even with Susan’s elderly grandfather figure Nino. I can’t wait to listen to more of her work! Great job Xe!

if you like humor in mysteries, have you tried any of the Dixie Cash books? The titles are a give away that you may smile a lot while reading about two gals from from west texas who work as beauticians full time and sluths on side. having lived in texas off and on since i was in the third grade…in the dallas area since 1963, i can tell you how real the characters are and the narrator is such a complement to the stories! Dixie Cash is not one writer but a duet AND you can find them on GoodReads!
ps i would follow you on twitter if you had a pointer here like you do for Facebook.
