My Review: I’ve never been a pretty, little pageant girl… or wanted to be. I don’t much fit that description and I’d have to leave my tomboy attitude at home. With that said, I still loved the Beauty Queens audiobook!
This was such a fun listen. After the first hour, I was sucked into the lives of these surviving girls. I loved the life stories of the girls and how they stuck together to survive. The very unique personalities tied this audiobook together in a nice package. You had smart, sexy, air-headed, witty and unusual.
During the middle of the audiobook, I was a little taken aback when the “sexy pirates” were introduced. I think my biggest problem was that I didn’t want to listen as these guys saved the girls. I wanted the girls to do it themselves, to save themselves and be heroines. Thankfully, the pirates leave the island just as quick as they arrive.
This is such a great audiobook for young women! If you’re trying to get a teenager into audiobooks, this would be a great first listen. I really enjoyed the story and characters.
Narrator Review: Author Libba Bray pulled double duty on Beauty Queens by stepping up to the narration plate and hitting a grand slam. The distinctions in these girl’s voices is amazing! She brought each of them to life in their own way. I think my favorite character voices were Tiara and Taylor. So funny, but so true to their characters.
I loved this one too. It’s almost impossible to find an author who can narrate their own audiobook . Libba Bray doesn’t just narrate, she performs the heck out of it!
I know! :) It was amazing, I was worried when I saw the author was also the narrator, but Libba did an amazing job!
