I spend a lot of time researching my next listens. Probably because I am a bit obsessed with audiobooks… Anyway, after much review I have listed 5 of my most highly anticipated audiobooks. A few of these have already been released and a few won’t be released for a couple months.
Check out my list.. and be sure to leave a note with some books on your “hot list”.
1. The Night Circus

Narrator: Jim Dale

Publisher: Random House Audio
Release Date: September 13, 2011
Why it’s hot.. There is a ton of hype surrounding this book. Many people are already hailing it as the next Harry Potter so it has me intrigued. I’m very interested to see if it can live up to the hype. Of course, I’m also excited about another adventure with Jim Dale narrating.

4. The Night Eternal – Book Three of the Strain Trilogy
Author: Guillermo Del Toro, Chuck Hogan
Narrator: ?
Length: ?
Publisher: Harper Audio
Release Date: October 25, 2011
Why it’s hot: The Night Eternal is the third book in the Strain Trilogy so if you haven’t listend to the other books you should take a look my review of The Strain – Book one of the Strain Trilogy. Both of the first books in the series have been very good. I was a little annoyed by the change in narrator from Ron Perlman in book one to Daniel Oreskes in book two but my objections were mainly on principle. I really don’t like it when the narrator is changed during a series… but Oreskes did a great job. I assume Oreskes will be narrating book three but I suppose it’s anyone’s guess.

5. The Last Werewolf
Narrator: Robin Sachs
Length: 11 hrs 37 min
Publisher: Random House Audio
Release Date: July 12, 2011
Why it’s hot: I’ve only heard good things about this audiobook. I’m a sucker for a good Werewolf book (see previous review of Frostbite by David Wellington) so I’m eager to give this one a listen. The only reason I haven’t already is that there are just too many good audiobooks out there.

Then she opened her mouth to scream—and recognised me. It was what I’d been waiting for. She froze. She looked into my eyes. She said, “It’s you.”
Meet Jake. A bit on the elderly side (he turns 201 in March), but you’d never suspect it. Nonstop sex and exercise will do that for you—and a diet with lots of animal protein. Jake is a werewolf, and after the unfortunate and violent death of his one contemporary, he is now the last of his species. Although he is physically healthy, Jake is deeply distraught and lonely.Jake’s depression has carried him to the point where he is actually contemplating suicide—even if it means terminating a legend thousands of years old. It would seem to be easy enough for him to end everything. But for very different reasons there are two dangerous groups pursuing him who will stop at nothing to keep him alive.
Here is a powerful, definitive new version of the werewolf legend—mesmerising and incredibly sexy. In Jake, Glen Duncan has given us a werewolf for the twenty-first century—a man whose deeds can only be described as monstrous but who is in some magical way deeply human.
One of the most original, audacious, and terrifying novels in years.
